Executive Director


Mater Dei Radio in Portland, OR is a not-for-profit radio apostolate that proclaims the Gospel and engenders a vibrant and expanding audience with a personal connection to Jesus Christ. Mater Dei Radio has a 25 year tradition of evangelization, music and devotional programs that touch the lives of thousands of listeners every week. Mater Dei Radio operates the two major Catholic radio stations in Oregon and Southwest Washington and is funded by the generosity of its listeners.

Position Description

Reporting to the Board of Directors of Mater Dei Radio, the Executive Director has overall accountability for the leadership of Mater Dei Radio and successful execution of its Mission and Vision. Executive Director will be responsible for the strategic, fundraising, programming, financial and management operations of the station. The Executive Director will be the leader in communicating Mater Dei Radio’s mission and programming objectives to internal and external constituencies and will work collaboratively with the Board, staff and volunteers in raising funds, developing strategies and achieving performance standards.

Mission Fulfillment

  • Demonstrate solid understanding of the mission, programming content and audience of Mater Dei.
  • Understand Mater Dei policies and procedures and integrate them into the daily operations.
  • Foster a work environment that encourages growth in the interior life and personal faith of associates, volunteers and listeners.
  • Create and sustain unity and solidarity among staff.
  • Assure that all programming content adheres to Church teachings and advances the Mission.


Strategic Leadership

  • Work with Board of Directors in a collaborative effort to execute the development of strategic and operational plans by discipline. Integrate plans across the organization.
  • In collaboration with the Board of Directors and Programming Director, implement the vision for programming to ensure that it is orthodox, relevant and creative.
  • Direct development and implementation of company-wide annual budget and funding strategies.
  • Lead growth and expansion of Mater Dei.
  • Lead Senior Management Team.



  • Establish performance goals for all direct reports.
  • Coach and mentor staff.
  • Create and sustain unity and solidarity among staff.
  • Reinforce organizational values.
  • Be effective Liaison between Board of Directors and Staff.
  • Accountable for station revenue and budgetary adherence.
  • Accountable for station compliance with all governmental regulations and restrictions.
  • Responsible for management of day to day technical and engineering



  • Provide resources needed to support development plans and strategies created by the Director of Development.
  • Establish rapport with benefactors and encourage, support and sustain the benefactor’s philanthropic relationship with Mater Dei.
  • Meet privately with prospective benefactors to ask for financial support.
  • Participate in public Development events and serve as keynote speaker.
  • Lead semi-annual pledge drives for marketing team to support revenue stream.
  • Work with Director of Development to identify, organize and manage a parish network to be our local hands and feet to build listenership, resulting in broad based relationship and support.
  • Generate awareness and build relationships to acquire listeners, volunteers and benefactors to support the mission of Mater Dei.


Relationship Management

  • Establish and maintain goodwill and good working relationships with key Church personnel, including the Archbishop, priests, and others.
  • Establish and maintain good relations with other Catholic organizations.
  • Maintain high visibility with all company stakeholders, including listeners and donors.


Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • Catholic, active faith life in accord with teachings of the Catholic Church and faithful participation in a local Catholic parish.
  • Degree in Business Administration or other related field preferred
  • Executive leadership
  • Proven record of fundraising success.
  • Successful leadership/management experience; goal-oriented, driven. Critical thinker.
  • Solid interpersonal, communication, business writing and presentation skills. Able to serve as key spokesperson for organization.
  • Strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to develop and execute long-term and short-term organizational plans.
  • Displays a high level of personal integrity.
  • Solid self-starter who also can work well in a team environment.
  • High level of personal energy and enthusiasm. Trustworthy, humble, solid work ethic.
