Messages for World Communications Day: 1979 - 2005
The Holy Father's messages for World Communications Day are issued each year on January 24,
on the feast of St. Francis de Sales. In his messages, Pope John Paul II addresses the unique
abilities of the media to reach the lost and hurting in the world with the message of the Gospel.
He challenges the Church and the world to use the media as instruments of evangelization and
catechesis.

and the Confusion of the Species
Catholic communicators are faced by
a bewildering number of suggestions to make their efforts bear
fruit. From style to content to assessment, how can someone who is
called by God to participate in the work of evangelization through
Catholic media discern the right path for their
work. This is the text of a talk given by CRA President
Steve Gajdosik at the international communications conference,
Strategic Management of Church Communications: New Challenges, New
Directions at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in
Rome in April of 2006. It provides a planning framework to help
determine what are proper avenues and outlooks for those involved in
